Germination: Easy if sowed in the fall of the year (for cold

Notes: American Indians use this plant medicinally.  Settlers used berries as a substitute for all spice. 
Sow and order in the Fall or Winter.  
Lindera 
benzoin   Used as a spice in certain recipes by the 
Puritans/Indians when they could not get other kinds of spices. Beautiful red 
berries in the fall.  Birds love the berries.  Grows in damp sand 
soil.
